Beat Making Apps
The latest in Beat Making Apps, Dr Drum, has just been released and with its marketing campaign generating literally millions of views on YouTube as well as great reviews it’s fair to say that it has made an immediate impression on the beat making community.
But looking beyond the marketing campaign and initial hype just how good is its set of features, and can it really help you create professional sounding beats?
At the heart of Dr Drum is a powerful library of samples. As few people getting started have the equipment necessary to produce their own samples most beat makers live and die on the quality and quantity of samples they come packaged with.
Many Beat Making Apps fall into the trap of either having too few samples in their library or having samples but of their being too low quality to be of any real use. We avoid both these pitfalls by having an extensive library of professional quality sounds in the 44.1 WAV format (as opposed to the lesser-quality MP3 format some cheap beat makers use).
Overall Dr Drum’s sample collection is quite a way ahead most other beat maker’s collections.
Still, a great collection of samples is not worth anything if you can’t do anything with them so let’s look at some of the other features of Dr Drum.
With a 16 track sequencer allowing you to fine-tune the volume, low-tones, medium-tones, high-tones and pan of each track Dr Drum allows you great control in creating your beats.
This is complimented by a drum machine featuring an excellent 12 pads per kit and 4-octave keyboards for piano, guitar, synth, strings & FX. One very clever feature is that if you import a sample into Dr Drum it will automatically scan it, find out what note it is, and then uses it to create all the other notes necessary to fill out your 4-octave keyboard meaning one sample soon turns into a whole horde of samples.
As well as all these features Dr Drum uses a powerful but easy to use interface that will have you dragging and dropping beats within minutes of installation.
And should you get stuck there is a member’s area full of videos designed to help you get creating beats as soon as possible.
It’s easy to see why Dr Drum has been getting such good reviews with its blend of powerful tools with an interface even a complete newcomer will find easy to use.
